This time of year, our Euro buyers are asking the same question each morning, “Are the blood oranges ready yet?!”
Yesterday we had our first arrival of Moro oranges, starting with only a hint of their characteristic red flesh they’ve a taste of raspberry sherbet, a joy!
Blood oranges have a slightly thinner skin, so are best kept in the fridge for freshness and then brought up to room temperature before eating to get the fullness of flavour.
The citrus season is now in full swing, and we’re starting the week with some sensational Navel’s from Sicilian Co-operative Agricoop. These are melt in the mouth, with a great balance of sweet and sharp juice. We’ve another hit of Spanish oranges at the end of the week, which are equally delicious.
Agricoop has also delivered some quite special grapefruits, which are wonderfully fragrant and a little sweeter than the Spanish fruits we had in recently but still with that bitter hit.
For you marmalade makers the first arrival of Sevilles is here. These bitter oranges will pair well in your conserves with a bergamot lemon or the bitter Citron on our shelves, but for the wild amongst you, we’ve some kumquats and limequats in stock.
Clementines have never tasted better than they are doing right now, juicy with delicate flesh and packing a punch on flavour.
