The sun is out, and spring has well and truly sprung! We’ve finally wheeled out our creaky old plant stand, now stocked with wonderful grow-your-own pot plants and seedling strips from Kindling Market Garden in Stockport.
Seasoned plant-raising expert and ex-Unicorn veg buyer Dan, now head grower at Kindling, knows a thing or two about raising beautiful, healthy plants. This week, we’ve got peas, cauliflower, kale, sweetcorn, flowers, and tomatoes ready to grow.
Always eagerly anticipated in grow-your-own season, we’re kicking off tomatoes with Berner Rose and Clementine varieties. While the days are warming up, the nights are still a little chilly, so we recommend potting on and keeping them indoors on a sunny windowsill or keeping them fleeced in the greenhouse until temperatures stay milder overnight.
We’re also receiving delicious, fiery mustard greens from Kindling, which you might recognise from their wonderful salad leaf mix. These have been grown on a little longer, making them more robust. A delicacy in many Asian cuisines. They’re absolutely delicious stir-fried, with a mustardy, peppery punch!
Check out our website or scan the QR code in the shop for a delicious Nepali sautéed mustard leaf recipe, Dan’s go-to way to cook these flavour-packed greens. They won’t be available for long, so don’t miss out.
