  • 1 tin Essential Jackfruit
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 chilli finely chopped
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 125 ml water
  • 60 ml maple syrup
  • 60 ml molasses
  • Salt and pepper
  • Procedure


  • Drain the jackfruit, chop off the stems and remove the seeds. Rub the jackfruit between your hands until it breaks apart and becomes stringy.
  • Put to one side.
  • Fry off the onions and garlic in the olive oil for a few minutes until browned.
  • Add the smoked paprika and fry for a further minute or two.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes, puree, water, maple syrup and molasses and cook through for 15 minutes or so. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add the jackfruit and cook on a low heat for 20 minutes.
  • Serve in wraps or rolls with coleslaw and salad
