This week’s weather is for the gardeners amongst you. We’ve had our first delivery of pot plants from our friends down the road at Kindling Market Garden, Stockport. They’re nurtured from seed in the polytunnels at Woodbank Park, then potted into organic compost and delivered direct when the seedlings are ready. This week we have broad beans, peas and sweet peas. They will all need hardening off before their final place in the ground or a big pot in the yard. It’s best to do this by popping them out in a sheltered spot and then bringing them in at night for a week. As well as allowing them to adjust to the temperature change this introduces them to Manchester’s winds and helps their stems to toughen up a little before planting out.
On Friday’s delivery we will see cauliflower and kale. These can be grown on in the ground when the threat of frost is behind us! It’s still early days in the growing season so expect more to come. Tomatoes, chillies, herbs and more veg on their way in the coming weeks!
