Wholesome, healthy food shouldn’t cost the earth—literally. That’s why we offer a vast selection of nourishing ingredients, along with harder-to-find essentials for both everyday and adventurous cooks. Our prices are competitive with supermarkets, proving that a worker-owned business with strong values can provide a genuine alternative to national chains.
Unicorn Essentials
We pack over 200 cereals, pulses, grains, flours, nuts, dried fruits, and herbs and spices in our small on-site production facility—look out for the Unicorn logo. Many are organic, and alongside everyday essentials, you’ll find ingredients like spelt grain, flame raisins, organic Toor Dal, teff flour, and wild rice.
Our range makes it easy to cook wholesome, affordable meals, with plenty of options for gluten- and wheat-free diets. Unlike supermarkets, we don’t charge extra just because something is a little different!
A wide variety of these store-cupboard staples—many of them organic—are packed on-site, helping to keep costs down. We also offer a growing selection from bulk dispensers ‘unpacked,’ so you can skip single-use packaging, with the added bonus that unpacked is always cheaper at Unicorn. More on this here!
Cooking from scratch?
We stock over 2,500 grocery products, from everyday staples to harder-to-find ingredients for adventurous cooks. Our range includes UK-grown flours from Doves Farm, organic pulses and grains from Hodmedod’s, plus a wide selection of baking and cooking essentials, condiments, sauces, spreads, oils, vinegars, pickles, preserves, and seasonings—and of course, a few indulgent treats!
We also trade with some fantastic suppliers and fellow co-operatives like Suma, Essential, and Zaytoun, who share our commitment to ethical sourcing. More about some of our favourite suppliers here.

Prepared foods
We’ve got some amazing global flavours to inspire your culinary adventures. Seggiano’s organic Italian pestos are hard to beat, while sushi ginger, rice paper, and rice mirin might just inspire a Japanese feast. Our tasty range of fire sauces and pickles comes from Eswatini Swazi Kitchen, a FairTrade company dedicated to improving the lives of women in rural Swaziland. Additionally, we source organic FairTrade dried banana, mango, and mushrooms from Tropical Wholefoods.
Drinks
The stars of the show are our kombuchas from local makers Laid Bear and Loving Foods, along with offerings from fellow Yorkshire co-operative Suma. We also provide fermented teas from Left Field Kombucha, hailing from the traditional tea smuggling base of Eyemouth in Scotland. Additionally, enjoy our delicious creamy kefir drinks from French supplier Sojade and coconut-based products from Kent-based producer Cocos, all organic, tasty, and teeming with gut-loving active cultures.
Beer, Wine, Spirits & Cider
Explore our range of organic beers, wines, spirits, and ciders; many of our craft brews are local, along with one of the largest selections of organic wine you’ll find.
Plant Milks & Soft Drinks
We proudly offer what must be the North’s biggest selection of plant-based milks, squeezed from everything from oats to almonds. Additionally, you’ll find a vast selection of pressed and sparkling fruit juices, vegetable juices, cordials, ginger and turmeric shots, and glass-bottled still and sparkling water.
Teas & Coffee
All our teas and coffees are sourced from companies that are organic and/or trade fairly with the growers directly, while offering great value and quality wherever possible. Some favourites include Equal Exchange coffee and Hampstead teas. Alongside these, you’ll find a wide selection of affordable, refreshing herbal teas, matcha, turmeric latte, and an expanding range of loose-leaf teas now available in dispensers.
Chilled & Frozen
Our frozen and chilled selection has expanded significantly in recent years. Highlights include San Amvorisa houmous in seven delicious flavours, tofu in various textures and forms, sprouted seeds and beans from Skysprouts, and an extensive range of dairy-free artisanal cheeses, butters, spreads, yoghurts, pies, burgers, fresh pasta, pestos, sauces, and much more.
Fermented food lovers can feast on sauerkraut, tempeh, and kimchi from Loving Foods and Eaten Alive, along with many other fermented delights. In the freezer, you’ll find indulgent treats like five flavours of Booja ice cream, a wide selection of frozen fruits and vegetables, and delicious, nutritious ready-to-heat meals.
Household, baby & body
Beyond food, we offer an expanding selection of environmentally friendly baby products, body care, and household essentials, including cleaning products and homeware, all sourced with care for people and planet.
