We have a beautiful selection of Lancashire-grown tomatoes this week. It’s always a real treat to have such a fresh, abundant and local supply at this time of year.
We’re receiving cherry tomatoes from Libby Flintoff in Preston and Duncan Gielty in Ormskirk. Juicy and sweet with just the right amount of balancing acidity, they’re bringing plenty of flavour to our salads this week.
We’re also delighted to have Duncan’s wonderful heirloom tomato mix back. Only a few to begin with, but we couldn’t resist giving them a special mention, and the plants will be ramping up soon enough. After Duncan unfortunately lost his crop of tomatoes last year, they were very much missed by staff and customers alike, so we’re especially pleased to be welcoming them back this summer.
They’re delicious simply sliced on a thick slice of bread, drizzled with olive oil and finished with a pinch of salt and plenty of black pepper. Perfect!
