We have an abundance of beautiful whole cobs of sweetcorn available this week, courtesy of Pam and the team at Strawberry Fields and Lucy and the team at Vine House Farm, both in Lincolnshire.
It is definitely one of our favourite late-summer seasonal highlights, and it is looking and tasting fantastic after a particularly warm and sunny summer. We should have lots available for the coming week or two at least, but it is a notoriously short and sweet crop, so we plan to make the most of it while it is available!
Lincolnshire has been particularly affected by drought this summer, with exactly two straight months without rain until last week. It has taken a huge amount of work and graft to keep crops well irrigated and growing through such challenging conditions. You would hardly have known anything was amiss looking at the quality and care that has gone into all the crops on the shop floor, but behind the scenes our growers have put in an enormous amount of effort to keep everything looking so good, fresh and abundant.
We are therefore particularly happy to have such a wonderful and abundant supply of sweetcorn available this week. Definitely not to be missed!
Delicious simply boiled or steamed with salt and pepper, but equally good with some spices, chilli, lime and coriander, the latter of which will soon be available again at the weekend!
