Just in time for the sunshine, a few delicious new arrivals have landed!
Spanish watermelons are here – juicy, fresh, and full of that unmistakable taste of summer. Perfect for slicing up for picnics, eating cold straight from the fridge, or blending into a cool, refreshing drink.
The first Spanish nectarines have also arrived, alongside sweet and aromatic Moroccan Charentais melons, already beautifully perfumed and full of flavour. Try slicing nectarines and charring them briefly in a griddle pan or under the grill, they’re lovely in a salad with asparagus, toasted walnuts and rocket, and we have a bigger hit of beautiful (and huge!) bunches of UK asparagus this week courtesy of Bedlam Farm in The Fens.
And for something a bit more down-to-earth, the first new potatoes of the season are also here. Offering excellent value, these are the ‘Nicola’ variety, from Alessandro at Agricoop in Sicily – thin-skinned, creamy and full of flavour. Boil them up, toss with Naturli butter, chopped parsley and mint, a bit of flaky sea salt, and lots of black pepper. Simple and absolutely delicious.
