The weather has been GLORIOUS and by 4.50pm we are chomping at the bit in the Veg Office to get outside and play in the sunshine.
Whilst we are enjoying the salad options available and haven’t turned the oven on in weeks, it’s down to a great deal of water being irrigated into the fields.
It has been unusually dry so far this year and grower’s irrigation systems are working hard with water pumps and bore holes doing more than the bulk of the work. So despite the feeling of freedom this good weather is providing it would be nice if there was some help from the skies soon, perhaps it could just rain at night?
Speaking to UK growers we’re not at full panic stations just yet, but newly planted field crops would definitely appreciate an injection of water quite soon!
Dry warm weather has also encouraged an influx of insects in the fields and polytunnels impacting our rocket supplies.
As always, we’re super appreciative to our growers for their hard work keeping us fully stocked with fresh produce.
